Greece – A Place of Dreams

by Katia M20 January 2018

Hard it is to choose which one to do out of the Cyclades islands especially if you have a few days and a tight travel schedule. The Greek islands have always featured on my bucket list. Out of experience, the Cyclades islands need proper 3 weeks to be discovered and enjoyed.

I have been to Santorini and Mykonos. If Greece is your next holiday destination makes sure to do as well Paros, Miros, Nissos, Samos and Naxos.

You can reach Santorini island by both planes or by ferry. You will be amazed by this little island paradise. Fira, the capital of the island is full of history and archaeological museums without mentioning its breathtaking architecture and Oia, the most luxurious place of Santorini known for its shimmering sunset skies.

Santorini’s Caldera views and sunsets, its architecture, local products and cuisine, amazing hotels and still beating volcanic heart has seduced more than one.

Forget everything, this place will bring you serenity. Start your day with a delicious and leisurely breakfast on your private balcony. There is a range of activities to choose from but for those who want to take it easy, there is nothing quite like relaxing by the pool while enjoying the Greek cuisine lunches, refreshing cocktails, amazing views.

For a fun day out, go exploring the streets of Oia and Fira for shopping and dinner or take a catamaran out for some sailing under the orange sunset skies.

Where to stay in Santorini?

Whether you choose to stay in a luxury hotel or opt for an Airbnb accommodation you will still enjoy the great view other the Cyclades.

Canaves Oia hotel is super well located, right at the entrance of Oia, very quiet this luxury hotel will answer to all your needs with the great staff ready to help you and make your craziest wishes come true.

To have an upper view of Santorini, opt for a private or semi-private helicopter tour. You will have an aerial view of the wine yards, the beaches, Fira, Oia and the Cyclades. A captivating experience to live. Enroll in a wine tasting event where you can taste famous local wines and international grape varieties. Santorini is also known for its historical wine land, its aged vines produce four classic varieties, the most famous being Assyrtiko, a white wine that you will enjoy.

You can also go diving inside the heart of the volcano, do not expect much of fish sightings due to damages of overfishing. But you will be amazed to see the underwater cliffs, caves and volcanic reefs as well as a number of shipwrecks. Amongst the most popular dive sites are the islets of Palia and Nea Kameni and Akrotiri too is a must spot for divers.

Make your palates smile by discovering the local products in cuisine. Try the mouth-watery cherry tomatoes, the fara beans, the white aubergines and the wild capers. Not to mention the seafood delicacies; fresh shrimp, grilled fish, lobsters and much more.

Food and Drink

Many are the Greek delicacies to try. Santorini offers a plenitude of amazing and tasteful local products. Go to the Amoudi bay for lunch or dinner, the Armeni Restaurant, The Ambrosia and the Sphinx too. Go out and explore.

Beaches to go:

Mesa Pigada (South West), Red Beach (South West), White Beach (South West), Vlychada (South)

MYKONOS

Mykonos island is located almost in the center of the Cyclades. It is particularly famous for the cosmopolitan atmosphere, the exciting nightlife, the picturesque Cycladic architecture and the magnificent beaches that make holidays in Mykonos a magnificent experience. There are many things to do in Mykonos Greece, an island perfect for people of all ages: walk along the narrow streets of Chora, see the sunset from Little Venice, stay in luxurious hotels and swim in exotic beaches. Super Paradise, Paradise and Kalo Livadi are fabulous places to swim and spend a day under the hot sun. In the evenings, head to Mykonos Town and enjoy a night out in the many bars and clubs.

The windmills too are a trademark of the island, impossible to miss them. The cylindrical buildings with their conical wooden roofs were used to grind grain back in time. While the windmills lost their productive value with the evolution of technology, they remain one of the most popular monuments in the Cyclades. Some of the windmills have been refurbished and converted into holiday homes.

Mykonos is an island of fun. The most convenient way to discover the island is by renting a quad or a Jeep if you are more than two visiting. Take a map and go on a road trip. Little Venice got my heart. Go there at sunset and sip a cocktail at the Caprice Bar and enjoy the view, then to Nikos tavern for amazing seafood.

The most popular beaches to go are the Elia and Lia beach, both are next to each other and a must do as well is the Kalo Livadi beach. For a traditional lunch drive to Ano Mera, a traditional village found between Elia beach and Kalo Livadi beach.

Hello Julia,

I would suggest you to travel to Greece in the month of June to mid-july which is right before the peak season. Weather is great right in the summer time. Well it all depends where your are leaving from for Greece. I was already in Europe when i did this trip. For food expenses, count around 20 euros per person. For accomodation in Santorini, i would also suggest to look on Airbnb list to remain in a reasonable travel budget (80 euros and above per night) see what suits you best.

hello my question will be similar to julia’s question. around how much approximately such trip may cost ?. i know you are not a travel agent but maybe an overview for 6 days. will it be more than 100 thousand per person or even more including food, hotels and other expenses excluding shopping? thank you.

Hello Ansley,

Well if you plan on going during peak season June-August it the peak season, accommodation will be very expensive. I will rather suggest travelling during September- October, less crowded and more enjoyable.
Now a trip with activities like a catamaran, helicopter, wine tasting, jet skiing, quad renting, plus ferry rides and accommodation and the food is like hundred thousand for 4 days.
