Work From Home with a functional workspace

by Katia M14 March 2021

Here, it hits us again, a second wave and a second lockdown. Even though I have been using my new workspace ever since, last year. Walking into my office again on the first day of the second lockdown I felt relieved for this great investment. I have been wanting to share this post with you since last year, so here it is, better late than never.

In the event of the Covid_19, early last year (2020), the Work-from-home job force just got a big push. It’s no longer necessary to be in an office full-time to be a productive member of the team.  Besides, a lot of us have been rethinking and reinventing ourselves so as to suffer less from the financial impact of the pandemic and started up new entrepreneurial businesses. To work effectively from home, it’s important to ensure that you are set up to be productive. You’ll need to make sure you have a separate workspace with the right technology and appropriate equipment, an Internet service that meets your need, and a comfortable home office.

work from home

I have been suffering from severe back and neck pain for about 4 years now and it has been directly linked to the fact that I started my entrepreneurial business about the same time. Even though I have designated a home office space, I did not separate my work area from my personal spaces. I would work from the kitchen table, on the bed or on the couch. Hence the reason for the pain surging/ coming from the bad body posture. The worst is when I calculated my yearly expenses on doctors visits which were very high just to get a little relief and if I was to get back to the same wrongdoings it would not make my health any better and is literally throwing money out the window. This had to STOP!

Thanks to all your suggestions and recommendations to help me be relieved form this physical torture I was making to myself. I came across  www.travaylakaz.mu, They understood the necessity of having a functional workspace for the solid health of a successful worker/entrepreneur. It is critical to have a designated home office with the appropriate equipment and with the right technology. I changed my entire working space and added an ergonomic approach to the home office.

Regardless of whether it cost Rs5oo, Rs 5,o00, or Rs50,000, if an office chair isn’t set up correctly, it is not doing you any good. Taking the time to adjust it for your body and the type of work you do is a necessity. A good chair lets you customize the height, seat depth, armrests, and recline to your body so you’re comfortable no matter your task. But it isn’t always obvious how to dial in those options for comfort and ergonomics.

Also do not get fooled when people try to sell you office chairs and tell you it is an ergonomic office chair, it will help you to adopt a good posture. I have tried a couple before I settle for this one, trust me sitting in a real ergonomic chair you change your life. I felt like I was sitting on a cloud. When adjusted correctly to your body curve type, everything just naturally takes place without effort, from your feet to your neck.

I opted for the work from home package No.3

https://www.travaylakaz.mu/package/work-from-home-package-3/

This package includes an Ergonomic office chair, the model Sayl from the brand Herman Miller*, see below the link for its functionality. It also includes a wireless keyboard and mouse kit and an Ergonomic laptop stand. All of this with a facility of payment of Rs 750 per month over 36 months.

Basic you would tell me: the wireless keyboard and the mouse, but when you want to be the more mobile possible you do not use them, which is WRONG WRONG WRONG!!! Working on a laptop all day and using the trackpad just adds more pressure on your shoulders than if you were to use a mouse. While using a mouse you automatically open up your shoulders which causes less tension on them. These are little things that help in maintaining a good body posture.

Adjust the monitor height so that the top of the screen is at—or slightly below—eye level. Your eyes should look slightly downward when viewing the middle of the screen. Position the monitor at least 50cm from your eyes—about an arm’s length distance. If your screen is larger, consider adding more viewing distance.

As for the correct adjustment of your office chair, it is important to have these checked:

  • Adjust correctly your seat height – At the proper height, your feet should rest flat on the floor
  • Adjust correctly the tilt tension – set the tilt tension to control the resistance you feel when leaning back.
  • Adjust correctly the seat depth – Sit down and adjust the height of the chair so your feet are flat on the ground and your legs form a 90-degree angle. Your knees should align with or rest slightly lower than your hips.
  • Adjust correctly the Lumbar height – Adjust the lumbar height so that it comfortable supports the natural curve of your spine.
  • Adjust correctly the arm height – for maximum comfort your arms should make contact with the ramped without any lift at your shoulders.

The “travay lakaz” team upon the delivery of your office kit helps you in adjusting all equipment to help you keep a good posture while being sited in front of your screen for hours.

You are good to go.

On www.travaylakaz.mu they understood the rising of new entrepreneurs, SME’s and the workforce doing home office. They offer special packages “work from home scheme” and the “student scheme” through which we all can have a functional workspace with ergonomic equipment and technology available to all of us at home.

I made an investment in my health clearly and huge savings by having great comfort while working from my functional office. Ohh, they offer 12 years warranty on the office chair.

I strongly recommend you to have a look at the website whether you are working from home or for the smaller one’s to have an ergonomic workspace to do their study and homework.

And then to make it even more welcoming you can add photo frames, motivational quotes, plants and succulents on the table. It is your personal space so make it as you feel it as long as it keeps you focus and inspired.

I am writing from my new workspace and I am loving it. No tension on my neck or shoulders after long hours in front of the screen since I got this office kit at home (about a year now)

If you are still looking for a functional workspace, you know the address to consider.

Thank you Raoul Rampare for the pictures.
